Spelling Bee

Congratulations to Mikael, who came 2nd in this year's Division 2 Prelim of the Primary Schools Spelling Bee, 2009. Well done also to Maegan, Kierstin and Shalysa who also won through to the last 4 for Savannah. The event was held in the canteen at Savannah Primary School and sponsored by the Royal Bank of Canada. Ms. Mellony Bryan from George Hicks Campus was the spell master and Herbert Crawford (Learning Community Leader), Francine Gardener (Deputy Chief Education Officer) and Mitzie Bailey from the RBC were the judges. Mr. Kedry Laing, from the George Hicks Maths Department, kept the time. As always, the words started on a fairly easy level but quickly became quite complicated - but everyone made a good effort at spelling what they heard, even when they did not know or understand the word they were being asked! The first and third place were taken by students from Bodden Town Primary and fourth place went to East End. Well done to all who participated. Thanks go from all our competitors to Mr. Clarke, Miss Simpson and Mrs. Wilson who have coached them over the last few weeks in preparation for the competition. Good luck, Mikael, in the finals which will be held on December 2nd - details to be announced.

Slavery Poem by C.N. Year 6D

Stripped of their souls
Longing for freedom
Abducted from their homes
Violence around the corner
Escape ever elusive
Raging anger
Yanking in their mind

We Are Sailing

Year 6 have just come to the end of their 6 week block of sailing. They go to the Cayman Islands Sailing Club where Mr. Mike has organised for them to be taught how to sail by some of his sailing coaches. When the lesson is over, the class gets to have a swim! These photos are of some of Mrs. Dasent's students enjoying their lesson.
